Is Leadership Development where it needs to be right now?
Virtual conversation
We see in all the research and literature the need for leadership to focus on authenticity, empathy and taking a ‘human centred’ approach. And yet when faced with such extreme change, time challenges and increased pace, leadership development initiatives right now tend to zoom in on the skills gap required for leaders.
Overview
Now we are not saying there is anything wrong with this and we know it is greatly needed, but what we see is missing is the human centred piece.
And if leadership is to be truly human centred, that starts with a leader understanding themselves better – their ambitions, values, principles, strengths, vulnerabilities and risks. And only then trying to understand the impact that they’re having on others, and on their organisation and society, and that they want to have.
Self serve, online resources provide so much accessible and asynchronous data for global teams. But how can we help leaders understand the impact that they’re having in their own lives and that they can have at an individual, team and cultural levels. Will self-serve resources get us there, or do we need a rethink?
What does the research tell us? And who’s doing this really well in practice?
